How do I fix fridge not making ice

Fridge is not making ice is an irritating situation, especially when your daily routine is completely dependent on it. There can be different reasons behind this issue (fridge not making ice). At Fixhelpia, as we are one of the UK’s most trusted appliance repair service providers, we find that ice maker issues are often due to minor faults.

1.Check that the ice maker is switched on

Take precautions the ice maker has the normal setting on. Despite the fact it might seem obvious at first glance, this is unfortunately one of the biggest and most frequent causes of the issue in question. On rare occasions, the regulating panel is mistakenly locked or manually switched off. Give your ice machine a little time if you just switched it on. The majority of designs typically require about a day to get started making ice.

2.Check the water supply

Check the water supply that should be constant (check for leaks, obstructions or kinks in the water supply line) because a constant water supply is important for making ice. The refrigerator would not make ice if it is not getting enough water. Water flow can be restricted by even a tiny curve in the pipe. Ice production might potentially be totally stopped by low water pressure or a malfunctioning intake valve.

3.Inspect the freezer temperature

Check the freezer temperature setting because temperature plays an important role. Water won’t freeze into ice if your freezer is not cool enough for making ice (the freezer should be set below -15°C). The setting should be as per the brand's advice because less cooling can be a reason for not making ice.

4.Look for blocked or frozen components.

Check for blockage or frozen components because sometimes, the issue lies inside the ice maker system. A frozen fill tube or a clogged water filter can perform to control water from reaching the ice tray. There can be a problem due to ice cubes, which are clumped together (may block the dispenser or jam the mechanism).

5.Confirm the fridge is level

The ice cubes may not form properly or at all if the device is not level because the way water enters the ice maker might be impacted by a slanted refrigerator. Use a spirit level to adjust the refrigerator's feet if it required. This minor change may have a significant impact.

Check the ice bin and sensors

To determine whether the ice bin is full, modern refrigerators include sensors or a feeler arm. The system may cease making ice if the bin becomes overfilled or misaligned. Make sure that nothing is obstructing, and that there is the sensor, empty the bin, reposition it correctly, and then it may work properly.
